1. Several persons, including a Catholic cathecist
have been confirmed dead after suspected herdsmen attacked Tse Igbe in Nyiev
Council Ward, Guma LGA of Benue State.
Report says that the Catholic catechist, Christopher
Unenge and several others were killed by the suspected herdsmen barely 24 hours
after President Muhammadu Buhari paid a condolence visit to the state where he
promised to end the lingering crisis between herders and farmers.
2. The House of Representatives on Tuesday recalled
its former Chairman, Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumini Jibrin, from
suspension.
Jibrin was recalled following a letter of apology he
wrote to the House which was announced during plenary by Speaker, Yakubu
Dogara.
3. The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has
released results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination
(WASSCE) for private candidates 2018-First Series.
The exam body in Lagos on Monday said 17.13%
candidates secured pass in English Language and Mathematics, adding that the
results of 1,021 candidates, representing 9.03% of the total candidates who sat
for the examination were withheld in connection with various reported cases of
examination malpractice.
4. President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday rejected
the amendment to the Electoral Act proposed by the National Assembly.
The president gave three reasons for withholding
assent to the bill, which was passed by both chambers of the National Assembly.
The president on Monday communicated his decision to
the federal legislature in two separate letters addressed to the Senate
President Bukola Saraki and Speaker Yakubu Dogara.
5. No fewer than 25 persons have been reportedly
killed in fresh attack in Plateau state.
The attack was carried out by suspected herdsmen on
Monday night in Dundu village, Kwall District in Bassa Local Government Area of
the state.
6. Three persons have been confirmed dead in a fresh
case of Lassa fever in Ekiti.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Rotimi Ojo, who made
the disclosure, said that five out of the eight new suspected cases in the
state tested negative while one was uncertain, with the last pending as at
press time.
7. Senator representing Nasarawa West in the
National Assembly, Abdullahi Adamu has opened up on the N70 million belonging
to the Northern Senators Forum, NSF, allegedly swallowed by monkey.
According to the senator, the allegation was made to
give him a bad name following his position on the electoral act amendment bill.
8. President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday summoned
the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris over his disobedience to his
directive to relocate to Benue.
Buhari asked IGP Idris to provide a comprehensive
report on Police Operations in the affected States, after which further
decisions will be taken.
9. President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday sacked
Brigadier-General Paul Boroh (Rtd) as Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty
Programme for Niger Delta militants.
He replaced him with Professor Charles Quaker
Dokubo, who was until his appointment the Director of Research and Studies at
the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs.
10. On the international scene, President Donald
Trump of the United State has fired US secretary of state, Rex Tillerson.
Tillerson’s sack came barely 24 hours after meeting
President Muhammadu Buhari in Aso Rock.
