Gov. Ortom reacts as Benue-born Russell Orhii emerges World
Powerlifting Champion
Benue State
Governor, Samuel Ortom, has congratulated Russell Tiza Orhii, for emerging
World Champion at the 2019 World Powerlifting Championship in Sweden.
Ortom’s
congratulatory message formed part of a brief statement made available to newsmen on Sunday by Terver Akase, his Chief Press Secretary.
Governor Ortom
described the 25-year-old Powerlifting Champion as a pride of Benue State and
the entire county.
He said Russell
Orhii demonstrated the true strength of a champion by lifting an 83kg weight at
the world powerlifting tournament.
The Governor stated
that the feat attained by Orhii who was also a two-time American champion shows
the determination and excellence for which Benue people are known.
Governor Ortom
felicitated with Dr Paul Orhii’s family on the record setting achievement of
their son in powerlifting, and wishes him greater success in the sport.
The face of 70-yr-old man who impregnated a 13-yr-old girl revealed
A 70-year-old man
from Florida was arrested for allegedly impregnating a 13-year-old girl.
According to a Boca
Raton police report, Renaud Jerome of Boca Raton was
arrested on Friday after the girl showed up to a hospital complaining of pain
symptoms associated with constipation. That's when doctors discovered she was
14 weeks pregnant.
The Miami Herald
reports that the victim told police that Jerome “would touch her and have sex
with her” and was the father of the child she is carrying.
Jerome, who only
speaks Creole, admitted to police that he had consensual sex with the victim
three times over the past couple of months.
“Jerome stated that
within the last couple of months he has had consensual vaginal intercourse with
[redacted] three times,” police said. “Jerome stated that [redacted] was
interested in him more than he was interested in her and never forced her to do
anything.”
Jerome is being
held without bond at the Palm Beach County Jail and he’s required not to have
any contact with the teen or anyone under 18.

A father burnt his three-year-old daughter alive to spite her mother as they
were embroiled in a bitter custody battle. The mother has now revealed
that she wishes she had defied the court and kept her daughter, instead of
letting her go with her father.
Zoey Pereira, 3, burned to death inside a car that had been set on fire
and its doors chained shut. Her father is in a hospital under police
custody, suspected of being involved in the child's death.
"You'll never see your daughter again," Martin Pereira,
39, allegedly told his estranged wife Cherone Coleman, 36, just
before their daughter was roasted alive in a car.
Police and firefighters found little Zoey Pereira strapped inside the
backseat of a burning car on a street in New York City’s Queens borough Sunday
night. The doors had been chained shut, but the heat from the flames was so
intense, the metal melted enough for rescuers to pull the little girl from
the burning car.
They rushed her to a hospital, but it was too late. Zoey was declared
dead. The father was found close to the crime scene and was taken into custody.
Police are investigating Zoey’s death as a homicide, according to
the New York Times. A witness told investigators that he saw Zoey’s father,
Martin Pereira running from the car with his clothes on fire. He ran into
a nearby park, where he jumped into a lake to douse the flames, the witness
said.
Police took him to the hospital, where on Tuesday, he remained badly
burned and under medical sedation, according to the News.
Zoey Pereira's mother Cherone Coleman spoke out on Monday night hours
after her daughter's charred body was pulled from the backseat of a blazing
Audi A6 in Queens the night before.
"I always thought he was going to hurt me," Coleman, 36,
said of her estranged husband and Zoey's father Martin Pereira. "I never
thought he was going to hurt my daughter."
The grief-stricken mother revealed Zoe was her only child and she
is incapable of having any more children.
She said: "My daughter was perfect. She was loving, always
smiling, and oh so caring. She was my only child, and I can't have any
more."
She said her ex had their daughter in his care at the time of the
child’s death due to a judge’s order, and that she wishes she had disobeyed the
judge.
"I should’ve just kept her and gone to jail," Coleman
said.

'hero' student killed after tackling school shooter
Kendrick
Castillo, 18, has been named as the student who was killed when two students
opened fire at STEM School Highlands Ranch in Colorado. Details of his
heroic act to save his fellow classmates has now emerged.
The attack was carried out on Tuesday, May 7, just three days before
the last day of school. The students were in an English class for the
last period of the day, watching "The Princess Bride" when one
of their classmates walked in late and pulled out a gun.
"Don’t you move," the shooter reportedly said to his
classmates.
As other students were rooted to their seats in shock, Kendrick Castillo,
a gentle teenager fascinated by cars and engineering, lunged to stop the gunman
and was shot dead, The New York Times reports. Eight other students were
wounded in the shooting at STEM School Highlands Ranch on Tuesday afternoon,
which the authorities said was carried out by two fellow students.
Nui Giasolli, an 18-year-old senior who was in the class at the time of
the shooting, said Kendrick's split-second decision to lunge for the
gunman gave the other students a precious few seconds of cover to dive under
their desks or rush the gunman. Ms. Giasolli said a cluster of boys then
tackled the gunman, allowing her and others to flee the classroom.
"I don’t have enough words," Ms. Giasolli said in her
living room on Wednesday. "They didn’t have to risk their lives to save
the 15 of us who were left."
Kendrick's action has been described as an act of
self-sacrifice.
Speaking after his son's death, Kendrick Castillo's
father, John Castillo told NBC News on Wednesday that he had actually
discussed with his son what to do if he was ever confronted by a gunman.
"You don’t have to be the hero," John Castillo said he had
warned his son.
But Kendrick, who hoped to study electrical engineering in college,
rejected that advice, telling his dad he wouldn't think twice about acting to
save others if ever face-to-face with an armed intruder.
" "You raised me this way. You raised me to be a good person.
That’s what I’m doing,' " John Castillo quoted his slain son as
saying.

couple, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have promised to help a North Carolina
man recently freed from prison to pay to remove his face tattoo.
The couple met Paul Algarin and his family on Tuesday in Charlotte,
following his release from Central Prison in North Carolina after serving seven
years.
Algarin was charged in 2013 with bringing guns to a Fayetteville high
school, according to local reports.
Paul's twin sister, Azaria revealed on Instagram the family had lunch
with the stars before starting the procedure 'of removing [her] brother's face
tattoos'.
She said:
'Recently my twin was released from central prison where he served an
accumulation of seven years. He asked me for Kim’s address so he could send her
a letter and I rolled my eyes and never sent it. Eventually my mom sent it to
him so he would stop harassing us.
'Never in a million years did I think Kim would write him back (or even
read his letter), fly in right after the met gala (not to mention her 4th baby
is due at any minute), invest in our family & laugh / relate to us over the
smallest things.
'Kim flew in to CLT with her doctor to have lunch with us and start the
procedure of removing my brothers face tattoos.'
His mom Sonya added:
'Yesterday was a great day and also a long day coming. My children and
I had the awesome opportunity to meet @kimkardashian and her husband
@kanyedoingthings.
'Kim was there to grant a request that my son asked her assistance with
which was to remove a tattoo from his face. Thank God she received his letter
and was happy to grant his request.
'Her work and dedication to helping others restart their lives and move
forward with a more positive start is something that I am extremely grateful
for and most appreciative.
'Kim and Kanye taking time out of their busy schedules to come meet and
sit with us was amazing and an experience we will always remember.'
This comes after it was revealed Kim Kardashian has reportedly helped
free as many as 17 inmates by secretly funding a criminal justice campaign.
The mother of three first began her social justice bids by petitioning
President Donald Trump over the release of Tennessee grandmother Alice Marie
Johnson in June last year. The 63-year-old was pardoned by Trump after meeting
Kim at the White House.
Six female prison officers face
charges for 'molesting a woman visitor
Six New York City
Department of Corrections officers have been charged relating to allegedly
molesting a woman visitor while performing illegal strip searches at the
Manhattan Detention Center and attempting to cover it up.
Five officers and one captain, all females, are accused of assaulting
at least one visitor while performing illegal strip searches and filing reports
that failed to note the searches, the New York Daily News reported.
The officers were expected to turn themselves in on Monday morning to
face charges of unlawful imprisonment, illegal strip searches and falsifying
documents.
At least one officer is believed to have molested a female visitor
during an illegal strip search at the Manhattan Detention Center, which is
referred to as 'The Tombs.'
Four other officers and a captain are believed to have helped cover up
the assault.
The captain who has been implicated has since retired.
They are accused of filing false reports that said no strip searches
were conducted when they had occurred, the New York Post reported.
The specific details of the allegations against the corrections
officers are unclear at this time.
The indictment against the officers will not be unsealed until they
have been arraigned in the case.
The women are said to face felony and misdemeanor charges.

released from jail after 30 years for a flawed rape conviction, is arrested for
rape after cops find him asleep on the sidewalk with his head between the legs
of a woman who had overdosed on heroin

Massachusetts man, who spent 30 years in prison for a rape he claimed he didn't
commit, has been arrested in another rape case.
George Perrot, 50, is accused of raping an unconscious woman on a
sidewalk in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on January 4 - less than three years after
he was exonerated in a 1985 rape case.
He is expected to be arraigned in Essex Superior Court Monday. He
faces charges of rape, assault and battery on a police officer, resisting
arrest, and open and gross lewdness.
He pleaded not guilty in the Lawrence rape case at his arraignment on
January 7. A grand jury indicted him on the charges in March and the case was
moved to Essex Superior Court.
In the January incident, cops reportedly found him and the woman
unconscious and partially clothed on the street. He was found with his face in
between her legs.
When cops nudged Perrot awake, he became aggressive and charged at the
officer, leading the officer to use his baton on Perrot to subdue him.
The woman had overdosed on heroin and was revived with Narcan. She told
police she last remembered Perrot offering her a powdery substance and
encouraging her to snort it, according to The Republican.
She said she didn't consent to sex before losing consciousness. She
said she knew Perrot but they were not in a 'dating relationship'.
Perrot spent 30 years behind bars after he was convicted of raping a
78-year-old woman in Springfield in 1985 when he was 17.
In that incident he was charged with indecent assault and battery, rape
and burglary after he allegedly broke into the woman's home on October 30,
1985.
He was arrested five weeks later, charged with two separate break-ins.
He admitted to one of them, but not assaulting the 78-year-old
woman.
He maintained he was innocent and wrongfully convicted.
He was freed in 2016 after he was granted a new trial and the state
Supreme Judicial Court ruled he was wrongly convicted on flawed testimony about
microscopic hair evidence found on the woman's bed sheet.
He was released in February 2016.
His release was thanks to the work of The Innocence Project, a program
at the Cardozo School of Law that seeks to exonerate the wrongly convicted and
the Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism at Brandeis
University.
'Originally sentenced to life in prison, for a horrific Springfield
rape, which was negated in 2016 by a superior court judge granting a new trial.
He just re-offended in Lawrence,' Hampden District Attorney Anthony
Gulluni wrote on Facebook.
'Regrettably, there is another victim who has now allegedly suffered at
his hands, three decades later,' Gulluni added.
