Herdsmen Killings: Sultan Of Sokoto, Sa'ad Gives MACBAN 2 Months Ultimatum

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has given Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) two months to identify and apprehend herdsmen behind killings in Nigeria.

He gave the order during the formal swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected executives of MACBAN in Sokoto, on Tuesday.

The monarch also charged the leadership of MACBAN to find out whether Fulani herdsmen are actually responsible for the killings across the country or not.

The Sultan lamented the labelling of Fulanis as the killer herdsmen.

According to Abubakar, “To you the newly elected leadership of MACBAN, I want to remind you that your task is a very challenging one. Don’t forget that Fulanis are also being killed in Nigeria and no media attention is given to it.

“However, we are giving you two months to go round the entire country and find out why Fulanis are accused of being behind the killings. Go and find out who are those Fulanis doing the killings. Also find out if it is other people that are doing the killings and are accusing the Fulanis. Please, we want to get the truth from you within two months.

“We are not ashamed to be called Fulanis because Fulanis are not trouble makers. Despite the fact that any wrong doing in Nigeria now is erroneously said to be caused by Fulanis.

“We however want people to know that though there might be bad ones amongst the Fulanis, just like there are in every race, that is not enough justification to generalise that all Fulanis are bad.”

Sultan Of Sokoto Reacts To The Claim That Muslims Are Illiterates, Useless

Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, has spoken on the alleged claim that Muslims are illiterates and ‘useless.’

The Sultan said that Islamic education is robust and not backward as some people may claim.

Abubakar said this at the centenary celebration of Sheikh Adam Al-Ilory, held at the University of Lagos on Monday.

He said, “We cannot allow people to bring our heads down and say we are useless . We are highly educated.

“We need to take this challenge up and ask ourselves, ‘Why do people look at us Muslims as illiterates?’

“I don’t understand how someone who is very fluent in the Quran, who can recite it off-heart be called an illiterate because he doesn’t speak English.

“Islamic education is perpetually an entity of self -discipline , which involves physical and spiritual training of man.

“It is the balanced growth of man through training of intellect.

“The bulk of Islamic education is meant to facilitate the proper growth of the total personality of man. It is a way of life.

“When we are talking about Islamic education, don’t think we are being backward because it is the making of a total human being and when you become one , you would shun corruption and avoid illegal dealings.”

Sultan of Sokoto urges Buhari to call them to help out if he has failed 

The Sultan of Sokoto , Alhaji Sa ’ad Abubakar III, has told President Muhammadu Buhari to consult him and other stakeholders if he cannot solve the security problems of the country.

He said if Buhari had failed, he should call them to help out, adding that it was unfair to label all Fulani as killers.

He said that criminality must not be mixed with ethnicity.

The Sultan said this at the public presentation of a book, Dynamics of Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences in Abuja yesterday.

According to the monarch, “We don’t accept criminals in our midst. We must fish them (the killer herdsmen) out and deal with them. The worst word you can hear nowadays is the Fulani issue.

“There are millions of Fulani who don’t even know what a cow is. I am a Fulani and I am not a herder. I am a proud Fulani. But everyone believes that when you see a Fulani, he is a killer

“It is not true. So, for anyone to label any particular ethnicity is wrong. Let’s give criminals their ideal name; not Christian criminals, not Fulani criminals, not Muslim criminals. If the government has failed, let them call us to come and help out.

“Uthman Dan Fodio founded the caliphate many years ago. He said conscience is an open wound, only truth can heal it. We must take a negative inner feeling away from us. We must not allow our biases to prevail over truth.”
