Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has joked that they could not afford Antoine Griezmann, ruling out a move for the France international.

Griezmann has informed Atletico Madrid that he wants to leave after five seasons, with Barcelona favourites to land the player.

City are set to bring in three or four new faces during the summer, but Guardiola ruled out a move for the 2018 World Cup winner.

“For the people of Barcelona, I say: ‘Don’t worry, guys.’ Manchester City is not going to buy Antoine Griezmann, we cannot afford him.

“For the people of Barcelona, don’t worry. We are not interested in Griezmann,” he told a news conference ahead of the FA Cup final against Watford.

Guardiola emerges EPL Manager of the Year ahead of Klopp

 

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has been named League Managers Association (LMA) Premier League Manager of the Season, ahead of Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino and Wolves’ Nuno Espirito Santo.

The 48-year-old has picked up the award for the second year in a row, after he oversaw City’s successful title tilt against Liverpool.

Guardiola’s men amassed 98 points, the second-highest in Premier League, a total only beaten by City themselves the previous year.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss, is just the third Premier League manager to retain the title after Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho.

“It’s an honour to receive this award.

“I want to share it with my players because they are the artists of everything, to my staff because we fought a lot [against] all the managers in the Premier League, especially Jurgen Klopp, an incredible contender to face till the end.

“It was a pleasure to play against all of them and hopefully do big, big battles again to win an incredible title,” Guardiola said in a pre-recorded video shown at the LMA dinner on Tuesday.

Juventus legend, Alessandro Del Piero, has claimed that Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp is a better manager than Manchester City coach, Pep Guardiola.

Del Piero believes Klopp is more a coach of the future than Guardiola.

According to him, Klopp’s attitude towards the media in more or less difficult situations proves he is a better manager.

Asked to pick between Klopp and Guardiola who is better, Del Piero told Sky Sport Italia: “Klopp or Guardiola? Let’s take both of them to Italy. Guardiola has taught many, he has inspired so many players.

“We are talking about two managers with different personalities, let’s say Klopp is more a coach of the future.

“His attitude towards the media in more or less difficult situations proves it. I remember how he faced the post-Champions final. Usually one is always quite angry after losing a final, but he dealt with it all everything differently.

“I must say that this attitude has given a different freshness and his team proves it. They have energy and enthusiasm. With all due respect to Liverpool, there are not only big stars, we can certainly say that Klopp has improved many of them”.

EPL: Klopp speaks on Man City’s title win, reveals what Liverpool must do next season

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp has revealed that his side must need to be very close to perfection to win the Premier League title ahead of Manchester City next season.

Klopp stated this while congratulating Pep Guardiola’s side for winning their second successive English top-flight league title on Sunday.

Klopp’s side finished runners-up to Guardiola’s men with a point separating the two teams, but Klopp believes the Reds must be near perfect to beat Man City next term.

Speaking to reporters after Liverpool defeated Wolves 2-0 on Sunday, Klopp was quoted by Mirror UK as saying: “First of all I have to say congratulations to City. “They played an incredible season, we did too.

“As long as City are around with the quality they have, the financial power and all that stuff, it’s not like any other team will pass them easily.

“That’s clear. So we need to be very, very close to perfection to win the Premier League.

“But we have made unbelievably big steps and I really expect there’s more to come.”

EPL: Guardiola takes final decision on leaving Manchester City for Juventus

 

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, has reached a final decision concerning his future at the club, according to Daily Express.

The Spaniard has assured the Etihad landlords that he is not going anywhere for at least two years.

Guardiola spent four seasons at Barcelona and three campaigns at Bayern Munich.

Some City fans feared that he could choose to walk away before 2019/20, amid being linked with Italian giants, Juventus.

However, Daily Express reports that Guardiola has told close friends that he intends to honour his contract by staying put until at least 2021.

There were reports earlier this season suggesting that he could be in line to replace Max Allegri at Juventus.

Victory over Brighton on Sunday would make City the first team to win the Premier League title back to back since Manchester United in 2009.

EPL: Manchester City To Extend Guardiola's Stay In Etihad

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, is close to signing a 12-month contract extension, after securing his first Premier League title at the club.

Guardiola is almost two years into the three-year deal he signed in June 2016.

After delivering his first trophy – the Carabao Cup in February – the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona boss has now secured the title with five games left.

Although Guardiola stated throughout his time in England that he will not stay for long, ESPN reports the Spaniard is now ready to commit to another year.

The new contract is reportedly worth £20million and would make him the world’s best paid manager, keeping him at The Etihad until 2020.

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola has slammed Liverpool fans for attacking the club’s bus before the 3-0 defeat at Anfield.

Guardiola said they believe in their strength to turn the game around at the Etihad next Tuesday, insisting that he has no complaints with his players’ performance.

Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane netted at Anfield.

He said, “We showed up from the beginning, we started with enormous personality but they scored a goal.

“We continued to play but they scored two more goals. It is tough. They had 10-15 minutes in the first half when they were better.

“In the second half, we tried everything but we couldn’t find a goal. The first two goals, we had control of the game but they scored.

“I don’t have too many regrets or complaints. Nobody believes but we have another game.

“They had two attacks and scored two goals. That was tough but for the rest of the game we were so, so good. We had to score a goal but they defended more.

“We have to accept it and now we have [Manchester] United at home and then Liverpool at home.

“We see what happens. Of course it is difficult but we believe.”

The Reds were forced to issue a statement apologising to City after the visitors’ team bus was damaged by their fans as they arrived at Anfield.

And Guardiola added, “Normally when the police know it is going to happen, they tried to avoid it from happening.

“So, I did not expect that from the Liverpool side, their people.

“One year ago something happened in Dortmund so we come here to play football and I don’t understand this kind of situation.

“The bus is destroyed but I did not expect a prestigious club like Liverpool doing this kind of thing.

“It is not Liverpool, it is the people, but hopefully it does not happen again.”

Champions League: Pep Guardiola Reacts To Manchester City 3-0 Loss To Liverpool

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has pointed out his tactical decision as the reason they lost to Liverpool in their Champions League quarter-final clash.

Guardiola made a big decision ahead of kick-off with former Liverpool winger, Raheem Sterling left on the bench and Ilkay Gundogan handed a start at Anfield.

The move, however, backfired, as Jurgen Klopp’s men scored three first-half goals without reply, to take a commanding first-leg lead.

After the match, Guardiola told reporters he was looking for “more passing, more control” with the inclusion of Gundogan.

Asked if it worked, he replied: “We lost three zero.”

Guardiola added: “Nobody believes we will go through. We will convince ourselves tomorrow.”
