President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed why he entrusted the nation’s Ministry of Finance into the hands of women since 2015 when his government came on board.

He explained that women have been in charge of the country’s treasury since he came to power due to his trust in them.

Speaking while receiving representatives of Nigerian women on a Sallah homage at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday, the President assured that he would give more recognition to women in his forthcoming cabinet.

He said: “I think the biggest trust any leader will entrust, whether in a household, a town or a country is to give the treasury to the women. Since I came women are in charge of the treasury.

“So, I don’t think it is the number that matters, the fundamental thing is who hold the bag. Look at the treasury and look at the civil service. Even with this, you are still asking for more. In the spirit of Oliver Twist, we will watch out the numbers.”

In her remark, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Administration, Dr. Hajo Sani, called on the President to consider more women in his new cabinet.

“We know you have us at the back of your heart and you know we have the women that are capable, women that have the potentials and women that will have value to your administration,” Sani said.

Remember that upon assumption of power in 2015, Buhari appointed Kemi Adeosun as Minister of Finance but she resigned her appointment on September 14, 2018, after she was accused of forging her National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, certificate.

Following her resignation, Zainab Ahmed, who was before then the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, was appointed by Buhari as Adeosun’s replacement.

El-Rufai’s suspension illegitimate – Kaduna APC

Kaduna State All Progressives Congress, APC has dismissed the purported suspension of Governor Nasir el-Rufai by the Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi-led faction of the party, saying it was illegitimate, laughable and should be disregarded.

Briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state executive council meeting at the party secretariat in Kaduna, yesterday, Acting Secretary of the party, Yahaya Baba Pate, said the ‘so called’ chairman of the faction, Danladi Wada, was an impostor who lacked the power to suspend any member of the party.

He said: “The authentic chairman of the party is Alhaji Shuaibu Idris. He is the chairman recognised by the national leadership of the party. “Last week, he received an invitation letter from the national secretariat, signed by National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, inviting him for National Executive Committee meeting next week.

“The Senator Hunkuyi-led group is illegitimate. As far as we are concerned, most of them have been expelled, including the so-called factional chairman, Danladi Wada. “As for Senator Hunkuyi, he is on six months’ suspension, because we cannot expel him. Only the national leadership can expel him, because he is a political office holder.

” The acting secretary also revealed that the meeting adopted the recommendations of the State Working Committee on local government elections and commended the ongoing registration of party members.

According to Pate, the party is set to roll out the timetable in a few days for the party primaries, ahead of the local government elections.

Accelerate the reconciliation process of the aggrieved APC members, Kalu urges Tinubu

Abia State former governor , Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, yesterday, urged Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to quickly get to work and reconcile aggrieved members of the ruling party.

This is just as Kalu canvassed support for Igbo presidency in 2023.

Speaking to reporters on arrival from Abuja yesterday at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two, MMA2, Ikeja, Lagos, Kalu said it does not augur well for a serving governor, Ajumobi and the Communication Minster, who are members of the ruling party to have political differences at a time they should be galvanising support for Buhari’s re- election bid. Kalu said: “I have reported this to the highest authority of the party that it is not proper for a governor and minister in Ibadan to go two parallel ways.”
