Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has told the club’s board to sign Ajax captain, Matthijs de Ligt, in this summer’s transfer window.

According to Sport Bild, Klopp is eager to sign the defender this summer in a bid to bolster his squad ahead of next season after winning the Champions League last weekend.
De Ligt is the most wanted player in Europe after an outstanding season with Ajax.

The 19-year-old has been linked with a move to Liverpool, Manchester United, Juventus and Barcelona in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, speaking on De Ligt, Liverpool defender, Virgil Van Dijk, a fellow country teammate with the youngster, believes the centre-back deserves to join a top club in Europe this summer.

“I think Matthijs is a fantastic player and any decision he makes will be the right one for him,” Van Dijk was quoted by Mirror UK as telling reporters ahead of Holland’s UEFA Nations League semi-final fixture against England on Thursday night.

“His big quality is that he’s only 19 and, at times, he looks like he has the experience of a player who is 25.

“He’s a great professional, really clever. He can improve, of course – and he will be better. Hopefully he can choose a big club because he deserves that.

“I spoke to Matthijs about his future and that [his next club] is secret. The most important thing is to keep playing, getting minutes to develop your football.

“The way a club is playing is also an important decision in your choice,” De Ligt said.
