2019 Election: El-Rufai Warns Youth, Election Are Not Won In Social Media, Get Involved

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state has said that 2019 election cannot be won on social media, advising Nigerian youths to participate in political process.

El-Rufai tasked youths to be involved in the ongoing political process in order to ultimately take over political power from the current leadership if they are serious about it.

The governor also blamed the elites for the challenges confronting Nigerians because of what he described as craze for “elites’ entitlements and selfish interests”.

“The Nigerian elite is corrupt, selfish, self centred and largely divided, like I said there is need for consensus of the Nigerian elite”, the governor said.

He further called on Nigerians to hold the elites responsible for the underdevelopment and lack of progress in many states.

“Citizens should put pressure on state and local government to deliver on good governance rather than looking up to the centre for everything.

“Youths should be involved in the ongoing political process in order to ultimately take over political power from the current leadership if they are serious about it.

“This is imperative because no election can be won on twitter, facebook or any social media‎ as the elders currently in power will not handover power to the youths for the sake of it, they have to work for it,” El-Rufai stressed.

2019 Presidential Election: Buhari will Lose In Bauchi If - Nasiru Darazo

President Muhammadu Buhari may risk Bauchi state’s cumulative votes if APC insists on giving the party’s governorship ticket to Governor Mohammad Abubakar in 2019 election.

According to DAILY POST, an APC chieftain, Alhaji Nasiru Darazo said that all strategies have been put in place to politically bury Abubakar’s second term, alleging huge failure of APC under the governor.

Darazo who is from the faction of speaker Yakubu Dogara and that of Dr Ibrahim Lame added that they will not spare anything in an effort to dislodge Abubakar during the primaries e in favour of Lame.

He boasted that Abubakar will surely be slapped by delegates within the APC for failing to redeem a promise of N3 million each to 20 LGAs.

The party chieftain lament that there is no any achievement in Bauchi state under Abubakar in spite of the huge allocation from the federal government

“I strongly advise the APC, President Buhari and the national working committee to heed my advice or risk our votes in Bauchi state because we cannot vote APC where Abubakar is eventually given governorship ticket ahead of 2019 election, ” added Darazo.

2019 Election: APC Has Not Endorsed Buhari 2nd Term, The Party Spokesman Denies

The spokesman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, on behalf of the party, has denied viral reports that it endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari for second term.

 

Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi 

While speaking in a telephone interview with The PUNCH, in Abuja, on Wednesday, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said what the party’s National Executive Committee did at its last meeting, was to pass a vote of confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari and the Chief John Odigie-Oyegun-led National Working Committee.

The All Progressives Congress spokesman made it clear that a vote of confidence was not the same as endorsing the President for a second term, adding that the issue of endorsing the President for a second term did not form part of discussions during the NEC meeting.

Speaking in response to a question on whether the endorsement of Buhari for a second term in 2019 was part of decisions taken during the party’s last NEC meeting, Abdullahi said, “NO.”

He said: “You will recall that the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, addressed this issue while responding to a question on the issue of 2019 at yesterday (Tuesday’s) briefing when he said, the President has not said he wants to contest and that for now, his focus is on the issue of governance, so the issue of endorsing him (President) for a second term in 2019 did not arise.”

Recall that Reuters had on Wednesday, quoted two unnamed APC leaders as saying the APC National Executive Committee of the APC had endorsed President Buhari to seek re-election.

1His full name is Kingsley Chiedu Moghalu, a political economist, lawyer and former United Nations official, who is a Professor of Practice in International Business and Public Policy at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

2.Moghalu served as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria from 2009 to 2014. As Deputy Governor for Financial Stability he led the implementation of far-reaching reforms in Nigeria’s banking sector after a combination of the global financial crisis, corporate governance abuses and weak risk management left one third of Nigerian banks on the edge of collapse. He also served as Deputy Governor for Operations.

3.His tenure as Deputy governor at CBN didn’t go without controversy as he was charged with executing frequently controversial banking sector reforms spearheaded by CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi in a fraught political and social milieu, and was seen by some observers as the heir apparent to succeed Sanusi as governor.

4.Moghalu is a frequent and sought-after speaker at global forums. He gave the 2014 Thomas Hodgkin Lecture at Oxford University, and has been a keynote speaker and panelist at the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States, the South African Reserve Bank, and many other international forums.

Early life

5.Moghalu was born in Lagos in 1963 to Isaac Moghalu, a Nigerian Foreign Service Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mrs. Vidah Moghalu. His father, Isaac Moghalu was posted abroad as a Nigerian diplomat in Geneva, Switzerland very shortly after his birth, and subsequently served in Washington D.C. as well. Moghalu spent his early childhood in Geneva and Washington where his family lived in the 1960s.

UN Career

6.Moghalu joined the United Nations in 1992. His first assignment was in Cambodia as a UN human rights and elections officer with the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC).  resigned from the United Nations System in December 2008. He then founded Sogato Strategies S.A. (Societe Anonyme), a global strategy and risk consultancy, in Geneva.

7.Umaru Yar’Adua, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (2007–2010) appointed Moghalu Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria in November 2009 following his confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.
