1. A group of lawmakers drawn from various parties are heading to court over alleged proof of vote-buying and gross impunity by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Sani Omolori.

Omolori, who supervised the June 11 election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker in the House of Representatives, is being accused of having condoned impunity among the lawmakers.

2. The Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency listen to the advice of former President Olusegun Obasanjo on how to move the nation forward and halt the numerous crises bedeviling the country.

Speaking with newsmen in Jos, the Plateau State capital, the National Chairman of the group, Alhaji Sale Bayari, said the present administration ought to listen to other eminent Nigerians too in solving the nation’s problems, but that from the signs he is getting, things are not in order.

3. Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 election, Mr Peter Obi has expressed confidence over his party’s victory at the tribunal.

Speaking at a victory thanksgiving service in Atani, Anambra state in honour of Sen. Princess Stella Odua; Hon. Chukwuka Onyema and winners of Anambra state House of Assembly, Hon. Noble Igwe and Hon. Somto Udeze, Ogbaru 1 and Ogbaru 11 constituencies, respectively, Obi reassured that all hope was not lost, insisting that his party would not give up as the court case was still in progress.

4. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has promised automatic employment to corps members who performed exceptionally well as ad hoc staff during the 2019 General Elections.

The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made the promise on Monday in Abuja at the presentation of kits with laptops and phones by the European Union (EU) to outstanding corps members who participated in the 2019 Elections.

5. The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has accused Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State, of persecuting Muslim students in the institution.

Director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola, claimed the University forces Muslim students to attend church on Sundays and also making it mandatory for students living in the hostel to attend church every Wednesday and Saturday.

6. Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba, on Monday night, imposed curfew on Jalingo following fresh outbreak of crisis in some communities in Kona and ATC areas, near Jalingo.

According to the Governor, the curfew will run from 4:00 pm to 6:00 am daily till further notice.

7. UNICEF, on Monday, condemned the use of children as suicide bombers in Nigeria.

The UN body said several reports suggest that three children – two girls and a boy (ages unknown) – were used to detonate explosives that killed 30 people and injured 40 others at a community football viewing centre in Konduga, Borno on Monday.

8. Ibrahim Thiaw, Executive Secretary of UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), said on Monday that degradation and competition over access to land and water may cause war in Nigeria.

The UNCCD head said that growing population with growing demand on resources, coupled with Climate Change and reduction of available land resources, were root causes of most of the bloody conflicts.

9. The Independent Corrupt Practices And Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) says it is set to commence tracking of its first phase of constituency projects in 12 states.

Members of the Steering Committee for the initiative included Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), Budget Office of the Federation, and Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.

10. Nigeria was defeated 1-0 by France, in their final Group A fixture at the ongoing Women’s World Cup.

However, having held on for most of the game, the African champions conceded a penalty in the 75th minute.

1. Former Vice President and Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 election, Atiku Abubakar, has raised the alarm of plot to arrest him. This was contained in a statement by his spokesman, Paul Ibe, on Sunday. It said due to Atiku’s insistence that a server was used by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), his enemies attribute a false comment on “mass protest” to him to prepare the ground for his incarceration.

2. Meanwhile, the International Center For Investigative Reporting, ICIR, has released some fresh revelations about the controversy on whether the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, actually has a server or not. ICIR released an unconfirmed document, which claimed that the electoral body has budgetary provisions for Servers, e-collation and e-tracking of election results in 2019 INEC election budget.

3. At least 14 people have been confirmed dead and 38 others seriously injured following a suicide bomb attack at Mandareri-Sambisa ward of Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State. Residents of the area said two suicide bombers attacked the community few minutes past 8 in the night of Sunday.

4. An Appeal Court sitting in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, has granted victory to Governor Emeka Ihedioha in a suit filed against his emergence as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last election. His challenger, Sam Anyanwu had approached the court to nullify the victory of the governor. But in the judgement, Justice Raphael Chikwe Agbo ruled that the plaintiff did not convince the court on the prayers he sought. The judge, therefore, dismissed the suit for lack of proof.

5. The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commended the European Union (EU) on its final report on the 2019 general elections. Reacting, the party in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, on Sunday in Abuja lauded the union for stating the facts on the elections. He said that the fresh revelation in the EU report further vindicated the position of PDP and millions of Nigerians on the elections. Ologbondiyan noted that the revelations of manipulations as detailed in the EU report further validates queries by majority of Nigerians on the elections.

6. The Police Command in Zamfara has confirmed the killing of 34 persons following an attack on Friday in Tungar Kafau and Gidan Wawa communities in Shinkafi Local Government Areas of the State. The Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Muhammad Shehu said this in a statement in Gusau on Sunday.

7. The Governor of Imo State, Chief Emeka Ihedioha has told his predecessor, Rochas Okorocha, to shut up and return all government property and money, he and members of his family allegedly siphoned. Okorocha was advised to toe the path of honour instead of indulging in reckless utterances and blackmail gimmicks against Ihedioha. This was contained in a statement on Sunday in Owerri, the State capital by Chief of Staff to Governor Ihedioha, Barr Chris Okewulonu.

8. President Muhammadu Buhari has directed state governments across the Northwest to pursue an urgent revamp of the national security apparatus in the subregion. A statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by Garba Shehu, his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, said the partnership followed the infiltration of bandits into areas that were hitherto secure. Shehu quoted President Buhari as expressing sorrow over the renewed attacks and extended his sympathies to the governments and people of Sokoto and Zamfara states.

9. The O’dua Peoples Congress, OPC, has warned kidnappers and herdsmen engaged in criminal activities in parts of the South-West to stop or incur their wrath. OPC gave the warning in a statement issued in Lagos at the weekend by its President  Aare Prince Osibote. He warned kidnappers and herdsmen to stop their criminal activities in the South-West or they will be forced to vacate.

10. Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has called for the probe of a claim that a Gorilla allegedly swallowing N6.8million in Kano Zoological Gardens. Ganduje ordered the State Anti-Corruption Commission to probe the missing N6.8m. The order was given in a statement issued by Abba Anwar, Chief Press Secretary to Gov Ganduje. The statement added that Ganduje also asked the Commission to look into the immediate and remote cause of the allegation, directing them to unearth everything surrounding the incident.

1. One of the major contenders for the position of the Senate President in the incoming ninth National Assembly, Senator Ali Ndume, has assured that he would not step down for Senate Leader Ahmad Lawan (APC, Yobe) even if invited to Aso Rock.

On why he cannot withdraw from the race, Ndume said “stepping down at this period will be disastrous to my political career and it’s not necessary because there’s no one and convincing reason for me to stepdown.”

2. President Muhammadu Buhari has written the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Tanko Muhammad, on the appointment of additional five Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The President wrote: ‘‘Pursuant to the provisions of Section 230(2) A&B of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), I am pleased to request that you initiate in earnest the process of appointing additional five Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria to make the full complement of 21 Justices as provided by the aforementioned provisions of the Constitution.”

3. Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Sunday attended the funeral of 25 persons killed by bandits in a fresh attack which occurred on Saturday in three communities in Rabah local government area of the state.

Report had it that the bandits had in large numbers, raided Kalhu, Tsage and Geeri villages near Gandi and killed 25 persons.

4. President Muhammadu Buhari, on Sunday expressed deep shock and sadness over the death of dozens of people in the banditry attacks which occurred on Saturday in three communities in Rabah Local Government Area (LGA) of Sokoto State.

The President, who was briefed about the incident and the arrests so far made by the Police, condoled with Governor Aminu Tambuwal and the people of the State over the tragic incident.

5. Governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have backed the candidacy of Senate Leader, Sen. Ahmad Lawan and Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila for the ninth National Assembly leadership.

Governor of Kebbi, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu and Chairman of the Forum while briefing newsmen at the end of meeting, said the governors took the decision in compliance with the directive of the party’s national leadership.

6. Hon. Ned Nwoko, husband of the sensational Nollywood star, Regina Daniels, was on Sunday denied accreditation by the management of the National Assembly.

The Delta-born politician was the first and earliest caller at the National Assembly complex on Sunday for documentation, ahead of Tuesday’s inauguration ceremony, but was, however, turned down by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Chief Mohammed Sani-Omolori.

7. The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum, AYCF, on Sunday condemned claims that President Muhammadu Buhari is out to Islamise Nigeria.

AYCF insisted that such allegation was unfounded and unrealistic.

8. Apex Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere has issued strong warning to Fulani herdsmen dwelling in the Southwest region.

Afenifere said it welcomes the decision of Governors in the region to do something over the siege on Yorubaland by Fulani militia masquerading as herdsmen.

9. The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has cautioned President Muhammadu Buhari against marginalising Christians in the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary arm of government during his second term.

It warned that the plots to undermine national unity by ensuring that only Muslims head all the branches of the central government started when Buhari’s administration instigated the “kangaroo trial resulting in the removal of Justice Walter Onnoghen, the only Christian to have held the position of Chief justice of Nigeria in 30 years over some phantomand substantially forged allegations.”

10. President Muhammadu Buhari has accepted Justice Walter Onnoghen’s voluntary retirement from service, as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Buhari’s spokesman, Garba Shehu, who confirmed this via his verified Twitter handle, noted that Onnoghen’s retirement is effective from May 28, 2019.

1. Nigerian Army said troops deployed to fight bandits and other criminal activities in Kaduna state have killed two bandits in their hideout and recovered arms and ammunition in a raid.

A statement released today, Thursday, by Army Acting Director Public Relations, Colonel Sagir Musa indicated that the raid on the bandits’ den was conducted while acting on intelligence report in Chikun local government area of Kaduna State.

2. The Federal Government, on Wednesday, filed a Notice of Appeal, challenging the decision of a Federal High Court Lagos, which dismissed a debt recovery suit it filed against Nigeria Agip Oil Company Ltd, and Brasoil Services Company Nigeria Ltd over undeclared oil shipment.

FG through its counsel, Prof. Fabian Ajogwu, SAN, had filed the suit in 2016, seeking to recover almost 12 billion dollars in missing crude oil revenue from some International Oil Companies.

3. The Nigerian Senate has decried increasing cases of alleged herdsmen attacks on farming communities across the country, leading to loss of lives and property.

The Upper Chamber further urged the Federal Government to curtail movement of cattle in the country as a way of checkmating criminals who disguised as herdsmen to perpetrate evil.

4. The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, Wednesday, commenced hearing in the petitions filed by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, his party and three other political parties challenging the declaration of President Muhammadu Buhari as winner of the 2019 presidential poll.

Chairman of the five-member panel, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, specifically warned counsel and parties in the various petitions to avoid discussing daily proceedings of the tribunal in the media and other public space.

5. The Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on Wednesday confirmed that six persons were killed on Tuesday evening when Boko Haram struck at Moloi village in the outskirts of Maiduguri.

Mr Usman Kachalla, the agency’s Head of Rescue Operation, who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Maiduguri, stated that 15 other persons sustained injuries from the attack.

6. Nollywood actors, on Wednesday, alleged that the killings in some part of the North, precisely Zamfara State were politically-motivated.

The group, under the umbrella of Concerned Actors and Seasoned Nollywood Stars, which was lead by former President, Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, Ejike Asiegbu at a rally held in Surulere, Lagos, called for an end to the sponsorship of the senseless killings in the State by political actors and their cohorts.

7. The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide on Wednesday appealed to the Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu to reconcile with ex-Niger Delta militant Asari Dokubo.

The group urged both parties to reconcile, adding that the rift between Nnamdi Kanu and Dokubo was threatening the bond between South-East and South-South parts of Nigeria.

8. The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, on Wednesday, reacted to the alleged negotiation between federal government and the leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) to end kidnapping and killings in the country.

They further called on the federal government to also dialogue with Biafra agitators who it said were not violent like the herdsmen.

9. Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State on Wednesday assented to the Kano Emirs’ Appointment and Deposition Amendment Bill 2019, after its passage by the State Assembly.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kano State House of Assembly on Wednesday passed a bill establishing four additional emirates and four first class emirs in the state.‎

NAN also reports that the bill, initiated on Monday, passed first reading on Tuesday and scaled through second and third reading on Wednesday.

10. Tottenham Hotspot overcame a 1-0 home defeat to Ajax, to qualify for the final of the Champions League.

Spurs came from behind to overpower the Dutch side 3-2 to face Premier League rivals, Liverpool in the final.

1 The kidnapped twins of Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Lekan Balogun have regained their freedom. The twins were said to have been released in Lagos. The Olubadan second-in-command, who confirmed the release Tuesday evening, however, said a ransom of N10 million was paid for the release of the twins, a boy and a girl.

2 The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Tuesday, blamed past civilian administrations for the current nation’s economic woes.

The former Lagos state Governor who was represented by Governor Abiola Ajimobi at a symposium in Kano described ex-President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration as the worst culprit in the squandering of the nation’s resources.

3 Suspected herdsmen, Tuesday afternoon launched a fresh attack on Chembe settlement in Ukemberagya/Tswarev ward of Gaambe-Tiev, in Benue State, killing a village head, Chief Iyongovihi Ninge. Report says the attackers came with hordes of cattle, plundering yam seedlings of farmers. They reportedly opened fire on the deceased who was clearing his field in readiness for cultivation.

4 Senior lawyer, Festus Keyamo, SAN, was Tuesday appointed as the Director, Strategic Communications, (Official Spokesperson) for the President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2019 presidential campaign. This was contained in a statement signed and forwarded to DAILY POST by the Secretary, office of the Director-General, President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organization, Mohammed Dattijo. The same statement also confirmed the appointment of Amaechi as Buhari’s campaign DG.

5 The elective National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is to hold on Monday, May 15, 2018. In a letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) dated April 9, 2018 with the title, notice of conduct of congresses/national convention, the party said it intended to conduct special ward and local government congresses to elect delegates to the convention.

6 A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, has said that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has not performed well. Falae said he was not expecting him to seek re-election in 2019. He said Buhari had failed in his primary responsibility of protecting lives and property.

7 Ahmad Salkida, a journalist and close ally of the Boko Haram sect has reversed his statement behind the abduction of Chibok girls from Borno State in 2014. Salkida, in new tweets, yesterday, said new information available to him, from two other cells within the sect, indicated that apart from the original 15 he knew were alive, 15 other girls were still alive.

8 Former First Lady of the United States of America, Barbara Bush, is dead. She died at the age of 92. This was announced in a statement by her husband and former President, George Bush Snr.

9 Senator Barnabas Gemade has backed the call by a former Minister of Defence, TY Danjuma for Nigerians to defend themselves. He added that there was an ongoing cleansing of his ethnic group, Tiv. Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly yesterday Gemade said, the country was becoming a state without control and that of ethnic cleansing.

10 The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in 19 Northern states and Abuja and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) have called on the Federal Government to reject the call by the British Prime Minister, Theresa May for Nigeria and other Commonwealth nations to allow same-sex marriage. They said Nigeria already had several social challenges to contend with, urging the Britain to respect Nigerian value system.
