The former lawmaker was three weeks ago riddled with bullets in his Chevrolet SUV in Oye Nimo market at about 8pm.

Sources from his community attributed his killing to cultists, who had been ravaging the community before he became the president general and banished the cultists from the community.

Governor of the state, Chief Willie Obiano had placed a N5million bounty on the heads of the killers for anyone with information that could lead to their arrest, but later increased it to N15million after the kingpin of the killer gang known as Transformer was arrested a week ago.

State police commissioner, CP Mustapha Dandaura in a press briefing on Monday said a second participant in the killing has been arrested.

He said, “Last week Monday, 29/4/2019 I paraded one of the kingpins who actively participated in the dastardly act and declared three others wanted.

“It would also be recalled that in the same vein, His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano increased the reward to Five Million Naira (N5,000,000) on each of the three suspects declared wanted in order to fastrack Police investigation.

“In view of the foregoing and following credible intelligence report, the Command Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) had on Friday 03/5/2019 at about 7:30pm arrested the second principal suspect, one Okoye Ernest Chinwe aka (IBB) ‘m’ aged 34 years of Obosi in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State who was initially concealed and later mentioned by the first suspect following discreet investigation.

“The suspect was traced and arrested in his hideout at old INEC road Awka. Upon interrogation, he confessed to being among the gang members that shot and killed the President General and is assisting the Police with useful information that could lead to unveiling the circumstances surrounding the incident and arrest other fleeing accomplices.”

Dandaura thanked the Governor of the state, Willie Obiano and the people of Anambra State whom he said were observed to have been very cooperative with the law enforcement agencies in the quest to arrest the killers of the former lawmaker.

Anambra assembly bans marriage among sickle cell carriers

The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a bill banning marriages involving people living with sickle cell anemia or incompatible genotypes.

The bill, sponsored by the member representing Anaocha II state constituency, Charles Ezeani and 15 others, seeks to eradicate sickle cell disease in the state by checkmating marriages among people with incompatible genotypes.

The law to be cited as Sickle Cell Disease Control and Eradication Repeal law, barred parents, guardians, traditional rulers or group of persons from giving out their children/wards in marriages without presentation of a certificate of verification by a qualified sickle cell expert of their genotypes.

It also provided that no religious body or marriage registry shall perform Holy Matrimony without first demanding and obtaining sickle cell disease prevention certificate from intending couples.

The law stated, “Anybody who contravenes the provisions of this section shall be guilty of an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine of N200,000 or imprisonment to a term of three years or both.”

The law when it becomes effective shall also put in place a monitoring committee to ensure compliance.

Speaking, the co-sponsor of the bill, Charles Ezeani, described the law as life-saving.
He said, “The development would put a stop to the notion that love is blind by ensuring that intending couples must present their genotype test before marriage.”

Ezeani commended the Speaker of the Assembly, Mrs Rita Maduagwu and other members of the Assembly for being the first to pass such health enhancement bill into law in the country.

The National Coordinator of People Living with Sickle Cell Disease, APLSCD, Aisha Edwards, who was also at the assembly, thanked the lawmakers for enacting the law.

She said the law above other things bars all forms of discriminatory practices against carriers of the disease, both in employment and admission into schools.

BREAKING NEWS
2019 Election: 2 Anambra Lawmakers Dump PDP For APGA
Two members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday, announced their defection to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
They are Hon. Ben Nwankwo, representing Orumba North/South federal constituency of Anambra State and Hon. Anayo Nnebe, representing Awka North/South federal constituency also from the state.
In their separate letters to the Speaker of the House, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, Nwankwo and Nnebe cited division in the state chapter of the party as the reason for their defection.
However, House Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Chukwuka Onyema (PDP, Anambra), raised a point of order, insisting that there is currently no factionalisation within the party as claimed by the two lawmakers.
He said the PDP was not bitter over their defection, but warned that they should not create any sense of faction which do not exist.
“We don’t have any crisis of faction in PDP. We are not complaining but don’t create a sense of faction in the party,” Onyeama stated.

Nigerian Cleric Urges Lawmakers To Criminalize Ethnic And Tribal Sentiment

BREAKING NEWS

Nigerian Cleric Urges Lawmakers To Criminalize Ethnic And Tribal Sentiment

The General Overseer of Hour of Mercy Prayer Ministries Worldwide. (Ori oke Alaseyori) Prophet Moses Muyideen Kasali, has urged the National Assembly to enact a law outlawing and criminalising ethnicity and tribal identity in the country.

Kasali said that law abolishing ethnic and tribal sentiments and affiliations, would make the dream of a united and prosperous Nigeria realisable.

The cleric, who spoke on the occasion of his birthday celebration at the church’s headquarters in Ori Oke Alaseyori, Ibadan, Oyo State, said winning the war against tribalism was a necessary condition to tackle the twin challenges of hunger and insecurity confronting the country.

Kasali advised the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to step up efforts to ensure the return of the 110 school girls abducted in Dapchi, Yobe State and as well get to the root of the recent cases of corruption springing up in the country if the administration is to be taken seriously.

According to him, the country does not need elaborate restructuring other than to simply abolish all tendencies making citizens define themselves on the basis of tribes as Hausa, Fulani, Yoruba, Igbo, Tiv, Ijaw etc, but to identify themselves as Nigerians.

Kasali said: “I want to advise our lawmakers at the National Assembly to do something. I once asked from God what really is wrong with us in Nigeria that we are having these challenges of insecurity, backwardness and scarcity of all good things. The Lord answered and said we have been the cause of these problems.

“Again, l asked Him how have we been the cause of our problems and the Lord sai d that In Nigeria, we identify ourselves first with our tribes but that what should be more paramount to us in identifying our selves should be the fact that we are all Nigerians.

“We must abolish all acts that prioritize our tribal differences over and above the fact that we are all Nigerians. This is why I want to advise our lawmakers that the only restructuring they can assist us with is to make a law that would abolish tribal identity and that anyone who identifies himself or herself as coming any tribe should be punished.

“If we can just get rid of seeing ourselves as coming from a tribe first before being a Nigeria, our problems, particularly security and sociopolitical ones, would be solved. Do you know why Ghana has solved many of its problems? When you see a Ghanaian, he identifies himself first as a Ghanaian before you know what tribe of that country he belongs. They have perish tribal identity.

“But here in Nigeria, we like to always identify and introduce ourselves as coming from the Igbo, Yoruba, Fulani or Hausa or Kanuri first before realising the fact that we are all Nigerians.

“If we can’t solve the problem of tribal differences, we can’t solve security issues. The insurgency challenge arises from our tribal differences and the way we have become too conscious of this.

Abolish all forms of regional differences, dividing Nigeria along geo political zones and stop seeing yourselves first as Yoruba, Tiv, Fulani or coming from any tribe. Let us promote the fact that we are all Nigerians. We must identify ourselves as one Nigeria and all our security problems will be solved once and for all.

“When we have been able to solve the challenge of tribal differences leading to solving security issues, we would then have agricultural produce in abundance as we would no longer have security issues such as herdsmen menace, cattle rustling and Boko Haram among others,” the cleric said.
